The title’s not right, is it? Nope, I think the press mean the “International Convention Centre”, worst culprit for this has been the BBC. They have repeatedly got this wrong, last week when Labour visited, and the last two days for the Conservative Party Conference 2008. BBC One, BBC News, BBC Parliament, it doesn’t matter which Beeb channel.

To make matters worse, Building Magazine have called it the “Indoor Conference Centre“.
I have quickly e-mailed the NEC Group for a response, it is still ongoing,
“Your email was forwarded to me regarding the name of our venue. Please see clarity below – I hope this helps.
The ICC stands for ‘The International Convention Centre’ the UK’s leading ‘conference’ centre.
The ICC hosts more than 500 events and welcomes 330,000 delegates every year.
Please come back to me if you need any more information on the venue.
Kind Regards”
Edit 30th September:
Found this in my archive, BBC reporting it as the “ITC” at the Labour cabinet meeting.

I have had a message back from the NEC Group, they have spoken to the BBC last night. Well, Nicky Campbell still called it by the incorrect name this morning, and he was in the building.
Yep, it still goes on:

Rant over.
For all that, I think Conference Centre is better and am quite happy for that to become it’s de facto name.
‘Conference’ makes me think of people going to a place to talk serious talk, etc and so on. ‘Convention’ makes me think of people dressing up as Klingons. I reckon the former’s more fitting for the ICC (if less amusing).
